Howard Paster President
Howard joined Paster in 2000 to work with his father and mentor, Edward, and is now the third generation to lead the company that bears his family's name. Combining local knowledge with regional insight and a national perspective, he focuses primarily on growing the company's portfolio through new development and acquisitions.
After earning his Bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Howard spent the next eight years with Mid-America Asset Management Company in Chicago. There he worked in property management and leasing, focusing on grocery-anchored retail shopping centers throughout the Chicago metro area.
Howard is an active member of the MSCA and ICSC. He currently serves as the State Legislative Affairs Co-Chair for the MSCA and formerly served as the ICSC State Director and Government Affairs Chair for Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota.
Howard enjoys spending time with his 5 sons, family and friends. He enjoys cycling, working out and is an avid tennis player.
Chad Shaw Vice President of Finance & Operations
A member of Paster since 2010, Chad arranges financing for acquisitions, new development and the redevelopment of current centers. He also manages the accounting function as well as day-to-day operations.
Combining innovative thinking with extensive experience in finance, accounting and business operations, Chad has been instrumental in enabling the company's growth. He began his career at the Minneapolis office of Ernst & Young and later worked as Director of Finance for Naterra Land, a Twin Cities-based recreational lakeshore and mountain land developer with operations in five states.
An Iowa native who earned his Bachelor degree in Accounting from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Chad achieved CPA certification in 2000 and CCIM designation in 2017.
Chad lives in Minnetonka, Minnesota with his wife, son and two daughters. He spends his free time cycling, cooking, coaching a variety of youth sports, and spending time with his young family.
John Kohler Vice President of Development and Construction
John joined Paster Properties at the beginning of 2015 with the goal of increasing the company’s development abilities and number of new development projects. He is well versed in the development, design and construction of both single and multi-tenant projects.
Prior to joining Paster Properties John had an extensive career in commercial real estate development including being the Vice President and Director of Architecture, Engineering and Construction for a national development firm. He has completed millions of square feet of new development in over 300 retail and mixed use projects nationwide.
Before that he was a principal at a design build architecture and construction firm specializing in commercial and retail projects. John began his career as a project architect in a mid-sized St Paul architectural firm specializing in retail, residential and corporate office projects throughout the country.
John has professional degrees in both Architecture and Environmental Design from the University of Minnesota. He is a licensed Architect and Interior Designer and member of the American Institute of Architects.
John lives in St Louis Park with his wife and a brown dog named Blue. He spends his free time in the winter as a ski instructor supervising a children’s learn to ski program and as an active member of the Professional Ski Instructors of America. In the summers he is busy on their family farm working in the garden and tending to their vineyard.
Mike Sturdivant Director of Real Estate Development
Mike joined Paster Properties in early 2013 and in 2015 Mike transitioned his role into the development department with the goal of executing real estate development opportunities for Paster. Mike's development responsibilities include: Guiding project direction and coordination from pre-development to completion of construction; negotiating with land owners and brokers through LOI and purchase agreements; managing pre-development activities including acquisition, environmental review, project concept development, budgeting, cost analysis and financing. Mike also manages 1 million square feet of retail properties throughout the Twin Cities, and to date has completed over $10 million in transactions for Paster. Prior to joining Paster Properties, Mike worked with developers CSM Corporation and H.J. Development, both local developers who own large real estate portfolios throughout Twin Cities.
Mike is a Board of Directors Member at Riverton Community Housing. Mike currently sits on committees within MSCA, ICSC, the City of Saint Paul and ULI. Mike studied Finance at Metropolitan State University and has also obtained his CCIM designation.
Mike currently resides in St. Louis Park with his wife and a dog named Frankie. He spends his free time cycling, cooking, fishing, hunting and spending time with friends and family.
